    Educational and Professional Background

A bit more about me: I’m originally from Florida and, although I’ve very much appreciated my national and international travels, I’ve been thrilled to call Florida ‘home’ again. I currently live in Hawaii where I am now licensed as well. I enjoy diverse cuisine, music, dance, and nature. I have a BA in Spanish, lived and studied in Spanish speaking countries, and hold a certificate in providing Psychological Services for Spanish Speaking Populations (PSSSP). I also grew up part-time in Germany and spoke conversational German. Although I’m not currently offering services in Spanish and German, I’m comfortable navigating cultural and limited language barriers that may arise.

I received my MA from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina and PsyD from Our Lady of the Lake University in Texas. I completed my internship at San Jose State University (SJSU) and postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University in California.

I’ve worked in community counseling settings for 6 years and university counseling centers for 11 years. During this time, I’ve provided individual, couples, and group therapy to children, adolescents, and adults dealing with stress/coping, anxiety, depression/mood disorders, trauma/PTSD, psychosis, ability-related issues, substance abuse, disordered eating, anger management problems, family conflict/resolution, and relationship difficulties.

For over 3 years now, I’ve been in private practice, offering telehealth and online therapy to Florida and,  more recently, Hawaii residents as well. My previous experience in community and university counseling clinics has been invaluable in providing me with the breadth of knowledge and skills to practice privately successfully.

I’m currently seeing adults experiencing stress, adjustment/life transition, anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, and disability/ability-related challenges. I specialize in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, so, I often use this goal-directed, strengths-oriented, trauma-informed, and culturally-sensitive approach to therapy. It has been proven to be very effective in helping people heal and move forward from these, often debilitating struggles; It instills hope and vision from the beginning of therapy, immediately fueling steps forward.

However, I’m always flexible in my work, as I use a wide range of other scientifically-validated therapies for which I also have expertise, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. These approaches may supplement treatment and further tailor sessions to best meet my clients’ individual needs and specific goals.

My treatment style is authentic and reflects who am I as a person and how I live my life. I’m open, non-judgmental, full of empathy, empowering, and oriented toward action. I offer a warm, supportive, and safe space for you to share your story as you feel comfortable and at your pace. Together, we address your unique experiences and challenges, identify your needs and goals for treatment to be successful, explore and expand on your existing abilities and resources, and build new coping skills to help you live the life you want.
